Zola's Swansong

Last season, Franco found himself out of the first team on account of the explosive partnership of Eidur Gudjohnsen and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. But now he is determined to hold down a place in the first team and he is confident that his goals will help him to do that after bagging 10 goals in pre-season.

"I'm pleased that I've kept on scoring during the pre-season. It's vital for me to keep it going now," Said Zola.

"I've learned by my mistakes. Even though I played well last season, I didn't score that many goals. Now I know that if I want to gain my place back, I have to keep on scoring. I'm sure I can do that.

"Eidur and Mikael have both been injured so I will try to do the job if I'm called upon and then make it hard for them to get back into the team."

With Carlton Cole also coming into the picture at the end of last season it seems as though Chelsea will be well equipped this season. Now all we need is a consistent midfield...
