Zola: We Needed This Victory

Franco was absolutely mesmerising at times yesterday and celebrated his goal by lifting his shirt to reveal a vest saying "300 Wonderful Times", with the goal being his first since playing his 300th game for Chelsea over a fortnight ago.

How important was that victory? What are his thoughts on playing behind the front two? And, the all important question, will he stay for another season?

Well, Franco provided the answer to all of these questions and more on Sky Sports News: "We desperately needed that. We haven't been playing badly but have been unlucky on a couple of occasions. Victory is always the best thing to cure all the problems and hopefully we are back on track."

"I don't mind it (playing in the hole), it's not a problem. We didn't have much time to trial it. But when you have quality players, the key is to have as many players on the pitch to score.

"I was pleased because I was recently dropped from the team after injury and I was quite disappointed not to line up from the start. But after years of experience I have learned how to react. I think I deserve to line up.

"I am very pleased with my year when I have put a lot in it. I think I deserve to play."

When questioned about his future, Franco replied "I don't know - every time I think about it I get confused and distracted. We will see. Certainly that (the Champions League) is a fantastic incentive for me and everybody, but we have to work hard for that and keep concentrating on that.''

Come on Chelsea, get that fourth place finish and give us Franco for one more year! After all, he deserves it...
