Wise: Give Hoddle Some Credit!

Last updated : 19 December 2002 By Rich Godden
Hoddle of course was Chelsea manager between 1993 and 1996 and he began our resurgence as one of the big forces. Would we have gone on to the next level had he not left to manage England? I suppose we'll never know.

But Wise is adamant that Hoddle deserves some credit: "Chelsea was just run differently when he came in and it all started from there," said Wise. "I think people looked at Chelsea in a different way."

"We moved a step further. At the moment I think Chelsea are not far behind the top teams. I think they have got a good chance of getting into the Champions League."

Yet Wise is still annoyed about the way his Chelsea career ended, "I did not want to spoil the 11 years I had and just sit on a bench and be a forgotten person.

"You spend so many years at a club and then you are put in a situation where you feel you are not going to play, when you are more or less told that.

"You feel that it is time, maybe, when you have to leave."

Don't worry Wisey- even if Leicester fans (and pretty much all other fans!) hate you, you're always welcome back at the Bridge!
