Wierd world of Peter Taylor

Last updated : 12 October 2005 By Paul Lagan
England u-21 manager Peter Taylor has recently talked about two Chelsea players who are under his command at international level - Glen Johnson and Carlton Cole.
Carlton was the goal-scoring hero of the team this week, Glen sits at home unable to get into the side.

Okay you are asking, what did Taylor have to say about these two talented players?

on Glen - England Uunder-21 manager Peter Taylor has urged right-back Glen Johnson to leave Chelsea to gain regular first-team football.
The 21-year-old former West Ham star has featured just once for the Blues this season and has also lost his place in the international set-up, both senior and at under-21 level.

Taylor said: "I've spoken to Glen millions of times about playing first-team football, he needs to play regularly.

"He wasn't selected because he's not really kicked a ball since he last played for us a month ago, when he had a very good game against Wales. I bet he hasn't even played all that much reserve team football.

"It's difficult for him and I do feel for him. He's at a magnificent club and it's hard to get into the team. You've got to be really special to get in. It's unfortunate.

"It's probably harsh that he isn't in this squad, though the door is certainly not closed for Glen, but nearly everybody is playing regular first-team football."

On goal-scoring Carlton - England Under-21 coach Peter Taylor has urged Carlton Cole to keep fighting for his first-team place at Chelsea.
Cole is yet to figure in the Premiership at all this season after returning to Stamford Bridge from his year on loan at Aston Villa.

But Taylor believes the 21-year-old can force his way into Jose Mourinho's plans and possibly secure a place at next summer's World Cup.

He said: "Carlton is a very dangerous centre-forward and personally I would say to him he should work as hard as he can to get into the Chelsea side.

"People talk about him going out on loan but I think he's at a fantastic club with a fantastic manager and if he keeps working hard he will get his chance."

Now, is it me, or is Taylor just a tad inconsistent in his attitude?
