Where Are They Now? Chelsea & Bayern Munich's Sides From 2012 Champions League Final

Chelsea and Bayern Munich are set to square off in the Champions League last 16 on Tuesday, eight years after their memorable clash in the final of the competition - their most recent meeting barring the UEFA Super Cup final that summer.

Despite being overwhelming underdogs, Chelsea somehow came out on top after winning the penalty shootout in 2012, so Bayern are out looking for revenge now.

In anticipation of the game, here's a look at what every player who featured back then is up to these days.

Bayern Munich

Manuel Neuer (GK) - Now 33, Neuer remains Bayern's first-choice shot stopper, and he now captains the side.

Philipp Lahm (RB) - Lahm retired in 2017 and became the majority shareholder at health food company Schneekoppe, but he has also been working as Germany's ambassador for Euro 2020.

Jérôme Boateng (CB) - Like Neuer, Boateng remains a part of Bayern's side today, although he's no longer a regular starter.

Anatoliy Tymoshchuk (CB) - Tymoshchuk left Bayern in 2013 and spent time in Russia and Kazakhstan before retiring in 2016. He now works as Zenit Saint Petersburg's assistant manager.

Diego Contento (LB) - Having left Bayern in 2014, Contento currently represents Fortuna Düsseldorf, but he has played just once since joining in 2018 after suffering various serious injuries.

Bastian Schweinsteiger (CM) - Schweinsteiger hung his boots up in October 2019 while playing for Chicago Fire, and he now works as a TV pundit for ARD.

Toni Kroos (CM) - Kroos joined Real Madrid in 2014 and remains there to this day.

Arjen Robben (RM) - The Dutchman retired in July 2019 after his Bayern contract came to an end, and he now coaches his youngest son's team.

Thomas Müller (AM) - Another of those to have held on to his place at Bayern, Müller has blossomed into an assist maestro this season.

Franck Ribéry (LM) - Robben retired, but partner-in-crime Ribéry chose to continue his career with Fiorentina, spending most of his time at striker before suffering an ankle injury in December.

Mario Gómez (ST) - Gómez can still be found in the 2. Bundesliga, where he features regularly for Stuttgart.

Daniel Van Buyten (Sub) - Van Buyten retired in 2014 and was last seen working as an executive assistant to Standard Liège's president in 2017.

Ivica Olić (Sub) - The forward retired in 2017 and is now Croatia's assistant manager.

Chelsea

Petr Čech (GK) - After retiring with Arsenal in 2019, Čech returned to Chelsea as a technical director, while you can also see him playing ice hockey for Guildford Phoenix.

José Bosingwa (RB) - The final was Bosingwa's last game for the Blues, and he eventually retired with Trabzonspor in 2016. He has since been working as a UEFA ambassador.

David Luiz (CB) - Luiz left Chelsea in 2014, then came back in 2016 and then left once again last summer, and he now turns out for Arsenal.

Gary Cahill (CB) - After being unceremoniously discarded by Maurizio Sarri, Cahill remains in the Premier League with Crystal Palace.

Ashley Cole (LB) - Cole eventually retired after playing under Frank Lampard at Derby County, and he now serves as a youth coach at Chelsea.

John Obi Mikel (CM) - After a spell in China, Mikel returned to English football with Middlesbrough, but now features for Trabzonspor in Turkey.

Salomon Kalou (RM) - Kalou's contract expired after the final, and after a spell in Leeds, he now represents Hertha Berlin.

Juan Mata (AM) - Mata left José Mourinho's Chelsea to join Manchester United in 2014 and still regularly features for the Red Devils.

Ryan Bertrand (LM) - Perhaps the craziest European debut of all time, Bertrand's Chelsea career soon went downhill and he left for Southampton in 2014.

Didier Drogba (ST) - The hero of the day, Drogba retired from playing in 2018 to focus on his role as part-owner of American side Phoenix Rising.

Florent Malouda (Sub) - Malouda turned to coaching after retiring in 2018, but he lasted just two months with Zürich before being let go in April 2019.

Fernando Torres (Sub) - Torres called time on his playing career in August 2019 after a spell in Japan with Sagan Tosu.
