Megson is full of praise for the way Zola has maintained his enthusiasm and passion for the game at the age of 36.

The Italian is enjoying a goal-laced start to the current campaign and has expressed a desire to carry on playing for another 12 months after this season.

Megson told PA Sport: "Zola has got to be one of the greatest successes, if not the best, of the foreign players that have come into England. He has got to be up there with people like Eric Cantona.

"We used to see him on that Channel 4 programme playing in Italy and it was great when he came over here. But it is not just his football. It's the way he trains, the way he conducts himself, everything.

"He must be a millionaire over and over again and yet he still looks as if he plays football just for the love of it. His enthusiasm, his work-rate - and then you have that fantastic ability.

"He could go and sit on a beach in Italy now if he wanted to but you can see he loves the game, he loves Chelsea and is a great role model for any footballer.

"I don't think age comes into it with him if he intends to play another season. Because he has looked after himself so well, that is not a problem for him."

Megson admitted: "Chelsea have maybe had one or two results that you wouldn't have expected - but they've also had some great results.

With regard to Zola we think he’s a bit of alright as well!!!! The greatest player to ever wear a Blue shirt? I think so don’t you?
