Villas-Boas cancels Dutch friendly

Chelsea has cancelled the pre-season friendly against Vitesse Arnheim because e Andre Villas-Boas did not want to play it.

The match on July 9 came too early for Villas-Boas who has decided the match is too early for his squad of players.

He will instead have them on the training ground and working hard.

Vitesse's Manageing director Managing director Paul van der Kraan, said: "Vitesse was only told of this at the weekend.

"It's too late to have an opponent of stature to replace Chelsea.

"We had gone great lengths to arrange this match and our season ticket holders were offered free attendance for this game."

It's also believed that the Dutch club and Chelsea had arranged to announce the cancellation at the same time - but the angry Dutch club decided to announce it earlier.

Chelsea has still not officially given the reason why the game was cancelled - Chelsea-Mad is happy to oblige.
