Tottenham Hotspur are understood to have reopened talks with AC Milan over a potential deal for striker Krzysztof Piątek.
The Poland international was one of the first players to emerge as potential cover for the injured Harry Kane, but Spurs opted to pursue Real Sociedad's Willian José instead. However, a move for the Brazilian has stalled, prompting Spurs to consider other options, and reconsider Piątek.
With just days remaining in the January window, Calciomercato claim that Spurs have decided to reignite their pursuit of Piątek, who they know could be signed relatively simply if they meet Milan's asking price.
Milan are adamant that they will only let Piątek leave permanently for a fee of around €30m which, so far, has proven to be a problem for Spurs.
As noted by the Daily Mail, Spurs are only really looking for short-term options, given Kane will almost certainly waltz back into the starting lineup once he is healthy, so they had initially preferred to bring Piątek in on loan.
It is believed that Milan would accept a loan deal, but only if it includes an obligation to buy at the end of the season, as they want to see the back of him at some point in the very near future.
Spurs are yet to make an official offer for Piątek, with Milan said to be waiting to hear back from the Premier League side, but they seem to have made it abundantly clear that they will only accept €30m to sell.
Having fired 30 goals in 42 appearances last season for both Milan and Genoa, Piątek was seen as one of the world's most exciting young forwards. However, the goals dried up this season, with the Pole netting just five times since the start of the current campaign.
Milan have already brought in Zlatan Ibrahimović, who has been hugely important during the early weeks of his second spell with the club, so it does not look like there is any way back for Piątek at San Siro.
Italian journalist Nicolò Schira has suggested that Chelsea may also be in the hunt for the Poland international. It remains to be seen where he will end up, however.
