Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel rued his side's inability to take their chances in the 1-1 draw with Burnley at Stamford Bridge, but said the visitors had earned their point 'by pure luck'.
The Blues took the lead midway through the first half as Kai Havertz converted Reece James' right wing cross, and also saw Thiago Silva hit the woodwork and Callum Hudson-Odoi force a couple of fine saves from Nick Pope.
But despite Chelsea raining down 25 shots on goal and enjoying 70% of possession, Matej Vydra's equaliser 11 minutes from time earned Burnley, who remain in the relegation zone, a surprise point.
After the game, Tuchel praised the 'fantastic' performance of his Chelsea players, but admitted that missing so many chances had led Burnley to believe that they could 'steal a point' - which they ultimately did.
“That's why everyone loves the game - a team can steal a point if the other team forgets to score the goals they deserve," Tuchel said. “We played a fantastic match. Of course I'm disappointed.
“If we played this game 100 times, we'd win 99 times. Today we didn't win it. The second goal would have decided it. It's always possible you miss one ball, one cross, and this can happen.
“It's our fault. We should have scored. We created so many chances. You have the opponent where you want to have them. You create so many chances. We let them believe it was possible to steal a point by pure luck and that's what happened.”
Tuchel also explained his decision to start Ross Barkley, revealing he felt the 27-year-old had earned the opportunity after some impressive cameo appearances from the bench.
"If you're watching the training then you see that Ross deserved to start," Tuchel said, "...and we changed a bit the shape in the front three today and played with a number 10 position behind the number six for Burnley. We saw a perfect position for Ross to start today. He waited a long time and he had a huge impact on our matches when he came on
"So he had a good match, with maybe match point also on his left foot. Before that we had a huge chance with Callum and before then a really big chance with Thiago Silva. If we got a second one, there was a big chance to score a third or fourth one, then there will definitely be no comeback possible for Burnley."
