John missed pre-season with a knee operation and on his comeback has played 45 minutes of reserve team football away to Arsenal, and then 90 minutes of European football at Viking and another 90 for Chelsea Reserves v West Ham.

Terry, who recently vowed to regain his place in the first-team at Stamford Bridge after five months on the sidelines with a knee injury and also his high-profile court case said: “My ambition first and foremost is to get back in the Chelsea team. That's what is important to me and that's my priority.

“I need to show the boss (Claudio Ranieri) what I can do. If it means playing in reserve games then so be it. I don't mind.

“Everyone goes through spells when things are not happening for them, but I want to show the manager I am a first-team player. I am working hard in training and know my chance will come. When it does I want to be in a position to take it with both hands.”
