Stanic to Real Zaragoza?

The Sunday Mirror reports today that Chelsea’s Croatian midfielder Mario Stanic, is being closely tracked by Spanish side Real Zaragoza. The former Cup Winners Cup winners were said to have wanted the Croatian while he was at Parma but the midfielder chose to come to Stamford Bridge instead.

Stanic, having made an impressive start to his career at Chelsea (scoring spectacularly at West Ham) has really failed to deliver consistently when so much seemed promised. Suffering a cruel knee injury at Villa, and subsequently missing the remainder of the 00/01 season, his return has seen Stanics’ performances consistently moderate and perhaps missing their former pace.

It is understood that Ranieri is desperate to cut the club’s wage bill by selling fringe players, but it is unlikely that the club will recoup much of the £5.6m paid to Parma for Stanic.
