Salgado No Longer Feeling Blue

Salgado's contract was set to run out in the summer and Madrid had given him until the end of October to sign a new deal. That deadline was missed, sparking speculation that the defender was on his way to Chelsea.

Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. But don't take my word for it- here's Michel to explain all: "We have an initial agreement that I will stay at Madrid - I took an important step and the club also made an effort for me to stay here.

"The interest [in me] from England and Italy was there - I said before that it was a privilege for teams such as Manchester United and Chelsea to be interested.

"That fills me with pride, and had I not signed for Madrid I would have considered them It's my future and my last big contract, but as I always wanted to stay here that's made it easier,"

"When you balance things up it is worthwhile for me and my family and I am very happy. I've lost money but I've gained other things, there is a lot to contemplate in a situation like this, now I'm staying in Madrid.

"I don't have to change my house and habits and I'm happy with the money."

Salgado has always come across as, how can I put this nicely, a wind up merchant- let's hope that this is just his latest joke!
