Romelu Lukaku set for thigh scan before Chelsea return

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has confirmed he will soon undergo a scan on a thigh injury which has continued to bother him over the international break.

Lukaku was in typically brilliant form for Belgium, bagging twice against Estonia before adding a goal and an assist in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Czech Republic, in which he also picked up a yellow card which will rule him out of the upcoming meeting with Belarus through suspension.

As a result, the Belgian FA took to Twitter to reveal that Lukaku has already left the camp and will head back to Chelsea, but not before he undergoes a scan on a troublesome thigh problem.

"I need to have a scan of my thigh - I've been having a problem with it for a while - and then I'll return to Chelsea," Lukaku told HLN after the Czech Republic game.

The injury didn't appear to hold the striker back during the international break as he celebrated his 100th cap with his 67th goal for the Red Devils. Only Iran legend Ali Daei has ever managed more goals in their first 100 appearances for their country, firing home 76 between 1993 and 2001.

His relaxed tone suggests there isn't a lot to worry about with this one, but Thomas Tuchel will be sweating until he gets the all-clear from Chelsea's medical staff.

Chelsea return to Premier League action with a meeting with Aston Villa on Saturday, for which N'Golo Kante is a doubt with the injury he picked up against Liverpool which also forced him to withdraw from the France squad.

Kante's injury could mean a debut for new signing Saul Niguez, who sealed a deadline day loan switch from Atletico Madrid which also includes an option for the Blues to sign him permanently for around £30m next summer.

In attack, should Lukaku not be cleared, Tuchel will likely resort to some combination of Kai Havertz and Timo Werner, the latter of whom has struck two goals of his own during the international break.
