Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is believed to have sent his son to Milan to try to negotiate a deal for Inter striker Romelu Lukaku.
The Blues have been pushing for a £150m move for Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland but have been met with continued resistance from the German side, who have publicly stressed that they will not be selling the 20-year-old this summer.
With an agreement for Haaland looking unlikely, Chelsea are considering other options and the Blues are prepared to restart their pursuit of Lukaku. According to Corriere della Sera, Abramovich is personally invested in the pursuit of a striker this summer and has even sent his son to Milan to try and strike a deal.
Chelsea have set aside around £110m for their chase of Lukaku and the Blues are confident that Inter would sell for that amount, but the problem is that Lukaku himself is not particularly keen on the move.
The Belgian believes he was disrespected in England and has preferred life in Italy, and he's not desperate to leave life in Serie A just yet.
That stance is backed up by La Gazzetta dello Sport, who state that Lukaku has firmly rejected Chelsea's advances as he only wants to play for Inter.
He knocked the Blues back earlier in the window and has recently done so again, stressing to Inter in the last week that he will not be leaving the club.
A move for Lukaku seems dead in the water now - unless there is more going on behind the scenes than meets the eye - meaning Chelsea may have to look elsewhere in search of a new striker. Talks remain open for Haaland and there is hope that Dortmund could be convinced to sell for the right price, but that figure could end up being too high.
Tottenham's Harry Kane is another high-cost alternative, but the Blues have been scanning around for targets who could be available for a lower fee.
Stuttgart's Sasa Kalajdzic has been identified as a potential candidate, but he is thought to be below Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski on the wish list.
