Praise For Desailly and Gallas

Newcastle boss Sir Bobby Robson hailed Chelsea’s central defensive pairing as the best defensive double act since Martin Keown and Tony Adams.

“The combination of their two central defenders is terrific – there’s not much better than that in the premiership”, he said.

“You go back to Keown and Adams at their very best with Arsenal. They are in that class.

“Gallas was magnificent. So was Desailly. They give you nothing. They are right on your shirt every time.

“If you turn, they take it off you, they have aerial ability, and Gallas is particularly quick.

“I was very impressed with him. And with that sort of defence and on the basis of their performance they are Champions League quality”.

Robson went onto say, “Chelsea are a quality side. I saw them play against Arsenal and Manchester United and they looked really good. They have beaten us 3-0 and we think we are a decent side.”

Sincere thoughts indeed from a very well respected manager – let’s hope Chelsea continue to march on with the same impetus, resilience and success.
