Poor Old Arsenal

Now, whilst I am sympathetic with Arsenal, I am still angry. Angry at the standard of refereeing in this country. Mark Halsey couldn't referee a game of tiddlywinks, let alone a football match.

At best he should ref in the Nationwide Conference, but that would be unfair on the teams in the Conference.

Why have I got it in for him, I hear you ask. Firstly, this is the same man who failed to send of Dean Windass for a blatant assault on Carlo Cudicini in the FA Cup last season. Basically, it was a such a blatant case of GBH that Windarse would've pleaded guilty if put up in court.

In the resulting melee, the ref decided that he had seen Carlo Cudicini knee Windarse and sent of Carlo! Yet Windarse got off with a yellow card!

This same ref was in charge of Arsenal vs Everton at Highbury on Saturday. I have no complaints about Sol Campbell's red card- in fact, I was glad the ref had the balls to send him off. However, Halsey went on to make a complete prat of himself.

When Thierry Henry scored from the spot to give the Gunenrs the lead, he tore his shirt off, ran to the crowd and blew a kiss to his wife- apart from the fact that they are newly weds, it was also his wife's birthday. Halsey, being the little rat that he is, didn't take any action then. He did, however, write in his report that he thinks action should be taken against Henry.

Why? I don't think he did anything wrong- he wasn't provocative. He merely wanted to share his joy with his new bride. Fair enough.

Now to Anfield, yesterday afternoon. Jimmy Floyd Hasslebaink scored the winner (yes, I will continue to milk it!) and promplty ripped his shirt off and ran off celebrating. As far as I can tell, he must have ran near some Liverpool fans. This is Anfield, full to the brims with screaming Scousers!

Judging by the situation (Chelsea scoring a late winner, 10-man Arsenal scoring the opening goal with 30 mins gone) I'd say that Jimmy's was more provocative. Yet he appears to be let off scot free, whereas Henry faces action from the FA.

On this occasion, I sympathise with the Gunners. But I have nothing but contempt for FIFA and the FA who, at their current rate, are slowly but surely wrecking the game of football...
