Chelsea and Claudio Ranieri are facing new injury concerns 9 days before the first game of the new Premiership season as William Gallas and Emmanuel Petit limped out of the Birra Moretti tournanament in Italy.

Gallas has twisted his ankle and Petit hurt his left knee during the first game of two 45 minute matches played in the three game tournament last night.

Ranieri already has injury worries with Graeme Le Saux who has tendinitis, and Eidur Gudjohnsen who is recovering from a knee problem.

It is reported that Ranieri will check on Petit’s and Gallas’ fitness prior to Chelsea’s final pre-season friendly against Dutch side Roda.

Chelsea lost both of their games in Italy, beaten on `running penalties' from 33 yards out after a goalless draw against Juventus, in which Gallas and Petit picked up their injuries.

The duo then sat on the sidelines for the second game, which ended in a 3-0 victory for Inter Milan as Ranieri experimented with formations and younger players.
