Mason Mount & Ben Chilwell ruled out of England's Euro 2020 clash with Czech Republic

England have confirmed that Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount will remain in isolation until Tuesday 29 June after coming into close contact with Scotland midfielder Billy Gilmour, who has tested positive for COVID-19.

Mount and Chilwell were forced into isolation after spending 20 minutes speaking with Chelsea team-mate Gilmour in the tunnel after England's 0-0 draw with Scotland, after which the young Scot tested positive for the virus.

The two England stars have since tested negative themselves, but England have confirmed that Public Health England have advised that the pair must remain in isolation until June 29.

"We can confirm that Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount must isolate up to and including next Monday," a statement read. "This decision has been taken in consultation with Public Health England.

"Chilwell and Mount will isolate and train individually in private areas at England’s training base St. George’s Park, with the rest of the squad returning there after tonight’s fixture against Czech Republic at Wembley.

"We will continue to follow all COVID-19 protocols and the UEFA testing regime, while remaining in close contact with PHE.

"The entire England squad and staff had lateral flow tests on Monday and all were again negative, as was the case with Sunday’s UEFA pre-match PCR tests. Further tests will be carried out as and when appropriate."

Mount and Chilwell will obviously miss the final Euro 2020 group stage game against the Czech Republic, in which England can seal top spot in their group with a victory.

They will also almost certainly miss England's round-of-16 tie. If Gareth Southgate's men win their group, their first knockout game will come on June 29, the day Mount and Chilwell are permitted to return to training.

The pair would be available for the quarter-finals, which are scheduled for the 2nd and 3rd of July.
