Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell to self-isolate after contact with Billy Gilmour

The FA have announced that Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell are isolating after coming into contact with Billy Gilmour during England's Euro 2020 clash with Scotland.

Gilmour, who was named as man of the match on Friday at Wembley, will miss Scotland's final group clash with Croatia as well as any potential last 16 tie after it was announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday.

As things stand no other Scotland players have been identified as close contacts, and no positive tests have been returned within the England camp. But Mount and Chilwell have both gone into isolation as a 'precaution' after coming into close quarters of Gilmour during the clash at Wembley.

An FA statement reads: "As a precaution at this time and in consultation with Public Health England [PHE], Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount are isolating after interaction with Scotland player Billy Gilmour at Friday’s match.

"The pair will be kept away from the rest of the England players and wider support team, pending further discussions with PHE.

"The entire squad had lateral flow tests on Monday afternoon and all were again negative, as was the case with Sunday’s UEFA pre-match PCR tests.

"We will continue to follow all COVID-19 protocols and the UEFA testing regime, while remaining in close contact with PHE."

It means the duo are likely to miss England's final game with the Czech Republic as they go all-out to win Group D. But as long as they don't test positive, they could return to contention for the knockout stages.

While Mount has been one of Gareth Southgate's mainstays in the opening two group games, Chilwell has yet to feature at Euro 2020, with Kieran Trippier and Luke Shaw both starting ahead of him at left-back.
