Makelele is the 786th midfielder to be linked with Chelsea in the past month and it's worth noting that his agent is, usually, full of shit. Marc Roger is the guy who tried to manufacture a move away from Arsenal for Patrick Vieira. Vieira claimed that he didn't know the bloke- coincidence?

Anyway, Roger has been talking of his client's plight of being paid a paltry £20,000 a week (who'd be a footballer, eh?). He said "Florentino Perez said last year that he would sell Makelele for 10 million euros and I am sure that Chelsea will offer a lot more than that.

"Perez even named a price for Claude - 10 million euros in cash or 12 million euros in two instalments. On Monday the people from Chelsea are coming here; I have a great deal of respect for Florentino and I respect his word.

"Claude knows he cannot earn the same as the top stars, but he feels badly treated. He would be a star for Chelsea but he will never be one at Madrid."
