Joe Hitting The Right Notes

Last updated : 22 November 2003 By Rich Godden
Joe has had a great week, as he scored his first international goal from open play in england's 3-2 defeat at Denmark.

And he has revealed that his talents don't just end with football... "There is nothing better than scoring for your country and I’ve been on a high since Sunday.

“I am learning the guitar at the moment — but I’ve not yet had the nerve to play in front of everyone. I also tried to learn Spanish — but I’m not planning on joining Real Madrid!

“My girlfriend started learning it so I thought it would be fun to join in — but it got too much with the guitar and football.”

Cole also attempted to distance himself from rumours that he is unhappy at Chelsea, as part of a squad. He does, however, admit that he should score more goals: “The comments didn’t hurt me because I know it’s true. I did not score enough goals for West Ham. And a lot of that was down to me not getting forward.

“Now with Chelsea, Claudio Ranieri is encouraging me to get forward as well as create chances. I’m not a bit-part player. I know I’m on the verge of getting a regular place and when I have started I’ve played well and created goals.

“What has surprised me since moving to Chelsea is the bigger the player, the more of a gentleman they are. I thought there would be a lot of egos here but they are all great guys.”

Let's hope that Joe can hit the right notes at Southmapton today...
