Jimmy Staying Put

A statement was posted on the Spanish club's official website, saying "In agreement with the wishes of the coaching staff, we have been analysing the possibility of one last player.

"We have spoken to clubs with whom we have a good relationship, such as Chelsea, to study the possibility of incorporating a centre forward.

"These talks have not reached a positive conclusion due to the considerable differences between the two parties.

"FC Barcelona has decided against the signing and considers the squad ready to face this season's competition with guarantees.''

It was initially thought that the Hasselbaink deal would go through after the player met the transfer talk with his approval. But Chelsea didn't want to lose their main goal threat and fought off the threat of Barca. But the Catalan giants came back with an offer of £10 million plus Michael Reiziger, but that was dismissed by Claudio Ranieri.
