Injury Problems Ahead Of Man City Encounter

Ranieri is without Dutch midfielders Boudewijn Zenden and Mario Stanic, while Danish forward Jesper Gronkjaer is out because of a personal problem.

Zenden sprained an ankle while playing for Holland in their victory on Wednesday in Austria, but Stanic suffered a contraction in a rib muscle during training on Thursday.

Claudio Ranieri today admitted that the squad was certainly less than he had hoped. He said, I have some problems because Stanic, Zenden and Gronkjaer don’t travel with me.

"Zenden has an ankle injury, Stanic was yesterday in training, a little muscle injury in his ribs. I hope they are not long term but at the moment, I don't know. Gronkjaer has a personal problem and is not injured.

“Babayaro is getting better but is not ready to play but Ferrer is better and comes with me and the same with De Lucas. Carlton Cole is not available yet.”

The 16 man squad to travel to Manchester is:

Cudicini, Pidgeley, Melchiot, Ferrer, Desailly, Gallas, Terry, Le Saux, De Lucas, Petit, Lampard, Morris, Oliveira, Gudjohnsen, Hasselbaink, Zola.

Included for the first time is 18 year-old goalkeeper Lenny Pidgeley who has been awarded squad number 40.
