Despite playing some of the best football of his career last season, Le Saux was constantly overlooked- a fact made even more ridiculous when you consider that Sven even gave a chance to Charlton left back Chris Powell!

Le Saux said, "I deserve better than that. I've played 36 times for my country and have always been committed to the cause.

"In his (Eriksson's) eyes I don't even merit an explanation.

"It's annoying that I should have had a chance last year when I was playing as well as I've ever done, and still didn't get to find out why I was never given another chance.

"To find out is one of the most important things in my life. I know he's been directly asked and not answered the question."
