How Tammy Abraham performed on Serie A debut for Roma

Roma debutant Tammy Abraham was the protagonist as Jose Mourinho secured a victory on his return to Serie A on Sunday night.

The former Chelsea striker was at the heart of almost everything good Roma did as they saw off Fiorentina 3-1 at the Stadio Olimpico, and he was only short of a goal to make it the perfect start to life in the Italian capital.

Having arrived from the Blues in a £34m deal last week, Abraham was clearly desperate to make an instant impact, and his first major contribution came just 17 minutes in. Sprinting onto a lofted through ball from Roger Ibanez the 24-year-old was taken out by Viola keeper Bartlomiej Dragowski, resulting in a straight red card.

Shortly afterwards he would have an assist, carrying the ball across the box before rolling it into Henrik Mikhitaryan to turn and side-foot into the bottom corner - a strike confirmed following a VAR check for offside which sparked a passionate celebration from the new signing.

Roma were reduced to ten men themselves shortly after half-time and conceded an equaliser through Premier League target Nikola Milenkovic on the hour mark. Abraham came inches from restoring the lead immediately, but saw his header come crashing off the crossbar from close range - his best scoring chance on the night.

However, just a few minute later more smart work from the Englishman would produce the winner, as he latched onto a Mikhitaryan through ball and supplied the perfect cut-back for former Fiorentina midfielder Jordan Veretout to pump home.

The Roma players were forced to endure another nervous wait for a VAR check for offside, but Abraham had timed his run to perfection and the goal stood.

Having already done enough to earn the man of the match award, the new arrival was withdrawn to a standing ovation with 20 minutes to go. His replacement Eldor Shomurodov would pick up his own fine assist, sliding the ball into Veretout for the Frenchman to score his second a seal the three points 11 minutes from time.

A perfect start in Serie A for Mourinho and his new striker.
