Speaking ahead of tomorrows big kick off, the Liverpool boss said "It doesn't take long for a team to gel. I've had similar experiences as a manager in my career, but it takes a long time to make and build a club.

"But the team can be achieved very quickly, depending on team bonding and the vision of the club. And the human qualities of the players. Take our new signings Steve Finnan and Harry Kewell. All the players here are happy that they are here and are good team mates and mix well.

"It's good that there are changes, and good that it's through the new situation at Chelsea. We have no sentiment of envy or jealousy, as has been suggested. We're all excited about the prospect of a new, very strong, contender in the Premiership.

"It's good. They have good players, they will attract crowds at Stamford Bridge and away, and Claudio Ranieri has done a good job before all the buying. He's consistently been doing well in the league, gradually getting to where he wanted.

"They already had a good nucleus and good base. They have now signed outstanding players in several areas which will help them to go well in the Champions League and the Premiership.

"It's good sometimes that the challenging teams change and make the competition more exciting, competitive and attractive."
