Graham Potter admits Chelsea 'got a bit of luck' in win over Milan

Graham Potter admitted that Chelsea got ‘a bit of luck’ with Fikayo Tomori’s red card during their 2-0 UEFA Champions League win in Milan.

Tomori received his marching orders in 18th minute for a foul on Mason Mount, with a penalty being awarded too. Milan were apoplectic at the decision, but there was no intervention from VAR and Jorginho gave Chelsea the lead from the spot.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang doubled the lead shortly afterwards, and from then on it was something of a non-contest.

Afterwards, though, the Chelsea boss was happy to concede that the key decision in the game was far from a straightforward one.

“To come here and win is certainly not easy, that’s for sure,” Potter told BT Sport. “So credit to the players.

“They were really good. We get a bit of luck with the opponent going down to ten men, but overall the performance was good. It’s nice to keep a clean sheet again, and to come away with three points is fantastic for us."

On the red card incident specifically, Potter added: "It's hard from where I'm sitting. It looks like he had his hand on him and Mason Mount was through on goal. I need to look again clearly. It's nice for the penalty and nice for Jorginho to score. It was a nice move to lead to it. It is what it is. Sometimes they go for you.

"It's tricky. You want to control the game but not to be too passive. With the atmosphere here, one action can result in a goal, the stadium erupts and they feel like they have an extra man."
