Friendly Action

On Saturday night, a strong Blues side took on Dutch side Roda JC in an entertaining affair. The starting XI was:

GK- Ed de Goey
RB- Melchiot
CB- Desailly
CB- Huth
LB- Babayaro
RW- De Lucas
CM- Lampard
CM- Petit
LW- Zenden
FW- Cole
FW- Hasselbaink

But things started badly for Chelsea when they found themselves behind after just a minute of action. But Jimmy Floyd Hasslebaink grabbed his first pre-season goal after 17 minutes and followed it up with a second 5 minutes later.

However, less than 10 minutes later, Roda were level and they went into the lead once again midway through the second half.

But Chelsea weren't to be denied a share of the spoils as Enrique De Lucas hit a magnificent volley past the despairing goalkeeper.

24 hours earlier, a weaker Chelsea side destroyed League of Wales side Total Network Solutions. The Blues ran out 6-1 winners, with Zola scoring a hat trick and Stanic, Ambrosetti and Cummings also getting on the score sheet. The game was supposed to see the comebacks of Eidur Gudjohnsen and Mark Bosnich, but Eidur was suffering from an upset stomach whilst Bosnich was unable to travel to Wales due to illness.
