Tottenham Hotspur manager José Mourinho has sarcastically offered his support to Chelsea defender Antonio Rüdiger following his clash with Son Heung-min that saw the South Korean sent off.
Son was seen kicking his feet up into Rüdiger while on the ground following a tackle, and the German certainly made the most of the light contact by falling to the floor. VAR then reviewed the incident and opted to dismiss Son for violent conduct.
Mourinho was clearly not impressed by the whole situation, telling his post-match press conference (via The Mirror) that he sent his best wishes to the defender following the 'violent' ordeal.
"I hope Rüdiger will recover from broken ribs because he will have broken ribs for sure.
“In some countries, like mine, for example with our culture we used to say 'clever player' but in this country, and one of the reasons I fell in love with this country in 2004, is because we don't call them clever, we call them other things that I refuse to call.
"We were looking for a goal and instead of a goal comes a red card. Then the game obviously is easy for them to control with players technically good and one player more. Then it was more difficult.”
However, Lampard refused to criticise Rüdiger's response to the incident and questioned (via Metro) how anyone could disagree with the idea that Son deserved a red card for his actions.
"It was a red card. It was a red card. I don’t know how much you’re expected to make out of it," said Lampard.
"I think Son is a great player and from the outside looks like a great person but sometimes in football you have instinctive moments that happen – a bit of a reflex.
"Maybe sometimes in games where it’s tough and it’s going against you a little bit and I think it was that moment. But I won’t have any word said about how Antonio Rüdiger dealt with that."
