Frank Lampard Pre-Match: On Tammy Abraham, Kepa Arrizabalaga & if It's a Good Time to Play Liverpool

Chelsea face Liverpool in the FA Cup fifth round on Tuesday evening, as Frank Lampard's men look to overcome a massive obstacle in their last realistic chance of silverware this season.

It's the tie of the round without a doubt, and the manager has been speaking to the press, as per Football London, about a multitude of issues ahead of the last 16 encounter.

Let's get straight into it

On Injury Concerns

FBL-ENG-PR-BOURNEMOUTH-CHELSEA

"Andreas Christensen has a small issue, which we're going to give it another 24 hours but probably puts him out of the game. There are no fresh returns from the injury list.

"Ruben Loftus-Cheek is playing in U23s this evening to get 90 minutes or something towards that which should be great for him.

"Beyond that there's no Tammy Abraham, no Christian Pulisic, no Callum Hudson-Odoi, no N'Golo Kante."

On Tammy Abraham Specifically

Tammy Abraham,Jerome Boateng

"He went to Barcelona to get another set of eyes on it, and has come back relatively positive.

"Unfortunately he's unwell at the moment, he's off for a couple of days with a bit of a bug, so no update."

When asked if he knew when he'd be back, however, the answer was a simple 'no'.

On if Kepa Could Return to the Starting XI

Kepa Arrizabalaga

When asked if Kepa was in the frame to start the cup match, the boss' answer was simple.

"Yep. He's been professional as expected, he's trained well, kept his head down, supported the team, and the group.

"I say the same every week, I get asked this every week, he's been good."

He was less forthcoming about the keeper's long-term future, however.

"Every player is in control of their destiny in how they train and how they play. This is Chelsea and we're trying to close the gap to the top, so there can be no one who is relaxed or loose, we have to push every day.

"And try to win the game in front of us, train well on the day in front of you. Of course we have to look at the group in the summer. But there are no decisions beyond the game tomorrow night as far as I'm concerned."

On the Starting XI to Face Liverpool

Jorginho,Georginio Wijnaldum

"[I'll pick] a team that gives everything to try to get through to the next round, against a very strong Liverpool team.

"I believe in the squad, sometimes you have to make changes and you have to go game by game and case by case on that. The team I put out should give everything to compete with Liverpool, as we have done twice this season.

"We've competed very well against them and were probably unfortunate to lose on both occasions. So we have to approach it with the same spirit, to try to win."

On if it's a Good Time to Face Liverpool

“Because they lost one match? Maybe not, who knows. It can go either way. They became relatively human for one game, that can happen in this Premier League which is incredibly competitive.

"It shows how well they have done in the last year or so, especially this season. I can’t comment, this is a strong Liverpool team."

On the Pressure to Win Trophies at Chelsea

FBL-ENG-PR-BOURNEMOUTH-CHELSEA

"I only feel the usual pressure, for the reason that you said. Winning something is usually a phrase that has gone out of the Premier League unless you are Manchester City or Liverpool, pretty much, in the last couple of years because they have made so many strides and gone out on their own slightly.

"We have to understand that the landscape has changed and try to bridge the gap. We have to try to go in with the same thought, we want to win it. Realistically we have to be at our best at first to beat Liverpool tomorrow."
