England Latest

JT will be alongside Rio Ferdinand at the heart of the England defence. Let's just hope he isn't too outclassed- Rio that is, not JT!!!

Lamps will be on the bench, however, although he has admitted that he would play anywhere for England. Lamps said "I have played in our last three games and I felt as though it was the first time that I'd really imprinted myself on the team.

"I'd been in and around the squad for a long time, so to be picked to start against Slovakia, which was my first qualifying game, was a great end to the season.

"I was nervous for that match. England games always give you that little edge when you come up to the ground in the coach and all the fans are already there. The atmosphere is different to a club match.

"I knew that there was a lot at stake in that game and there'd be a lot of people looking at me as it was my first start in a competitive game. Thankfully it ended up being a good night both for the team and me personally.

"We went in 1-0 down at half-time and it could even have been two or three but, in the second half we picked up our whole game. Personally, I got a lot more involved too. I saw a lot more of the ball, made a few things happen, nearly scored and then had a goal disallowed for offside which, looking back, probably should have stood.

"I don't mind playing in different positions for England. It's such an honour just to play. Central midfield is the position that I'd love to hold down but obviously there's a lot of competition in that area.

"If that means that I end up playing on the left, I am comfortable with that. I did it against Slovakia and I'd be happy to continue doing it.''

Good man Lamps. You'll be on in no time tonight- just as soon as Steven Gerrard does his hamstring/knee/ankle/groin!
