Coronavirus Roundup: EFL Side Threatens Boycott, La Liga Player Tests, Drive-In Football & More

One day, football will return. It won't be today, it might not be tomorrow and it might not even be this season, but we'll get it back...eventually.

Officials across the world are frantically working to come up with plans for a return from the coronavirus chaos which has brought the world to a stand-still, and everyone has something to say about it.

Here's the latest batch of football in the time of coronavirus news...

Lower League Sides Threaten Boycott if Season Continues

Accrington Stanley v Shrewsbury Town - Sky Bet League One

Several League One and League Two sides in England have called for the season to be ended prematurely, amid concerns over both player safety and the financial implications of continuing.

Accrington Stanley chairman Andy Holt told the Daily Mail: "It will cost us half a million pounds to finish this season, if that's what the EFL decide they want to do. I would rather use that money on rebuilding for next season instead of spending three more months now watching it die.

"I hope it doesn't come to this but maybe it will get to the point where we are losing points because we have not fielded a team. Even if that gets us relegated, my job is to make sure Accrington Stanley stays afloat."

La Liga to Demand All Players Pass Tests

FBL-ESP-CONFERENCE

La Liga will demand that all players pass three coronavirus tests before football is allowed to return.

COPE have accessed the league's protocol for a resumption, which is based on a return to training on May 4. However, before that, every player and coach will have to pass three separate tests before they are allowed contact with others.

Even if all those tests come back clear, group training is expected to be separated into several groups to reduce the risk of contamination.

Brighton Chairman Calls for Relegation to Be Scrapped

Tony Bloom

Brighton and Hove Albion chairman Tony Bloom has insisted that the Premier League should scrap relegation for this season if it cannot be completed.

He said: "I don’t foresee a situation, if the season’s not played out, that teams will get relegated on a points-per-game basis. I just don't think it's fathomable that a team which is not allowed to play out the season, may lose out on 0.2 of a point based on this system."

The Seagulls currently sit two points clear of the relegation zone and they still have to play Arsenal, Leicester, Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City.

Willian Eager to Avoid Playing Behind Closed Doors

Willian

Chelsea winger Willian has warned the Premier League that playing games behind closed doors would be damaging for everyone involved.

"I’ve heard that at we could return with closed gates, with no public in the stadiums," he told Folha

"If it is necessary and if we must play for the good of all, it must be done, but football without fans is no fun.

"I don't know if the league will be cancelled or if Liverpool will be awarded the title. Honestly, I don't think it's the time to even think about that. If you ask them, even the Liverpool players will say they're only concerned about safety, not the title."

'Drive-In Football' Introduced in Denmark

Let's end on a few positive notes, rather than continue with the misery of this situation.

Danish side FC Midtjylland have confirmed that they intend to introduce 'drive-in football' when they return to action, allowing up to 10,000 fans to drive to their stadium and watch the match on a giant screen from inside their cars. Commentary can be heard over the radio.

"We can come together for this fight - separately," their statement adds.

Kylian Mbappé to Cost '€35m' Because of Market Crash

Kylian Mbappe

We all know that the transfer market is likely to be a little weird when the summer window finally opens, but this might be a little too far.

Politician Daniel Cohn-Bendit told Ouest-France that Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappé will only be worth around €35m when all is said and done as no teams will be willing to spend any more.

So, you're telling me that no team in the world would spend €35m (less than one Joelinton) on one of the game's top players..?
