Chelsea to sell Hasselbaink????

Last updated : 12 July 2002 By -

Today’s Daily Mail reports that chairman Ken Bates and manager Claudio Ranieri have held emergency talks this week concerning the future of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

With Chelsea’s parent company Chelsea Village reported to be in debt to the tune of £97million, the Daily Mail claims that JFH may have to be sold to help balance the books.

Chelsea themselves have made it quite clear to both the manager and the supporters that Chelsea MUST sell before they can buy. However, new managing director Trevor Birch has stated that Ranieri will not be allowed to replace Hasselbaink if he is sold.

What the hell is going on? Is everything really that bad?

Tell me….. does Chelsea Football Club now have to support Chelsea Village? Let me tell you this. If Chelsea FC is forced to sell it’s main assetts to support Chelsea Village then we all may as well pack up and go home now.

If this is now the case then eventually their will be no Chelsea Village because their will no team left to prop it up! Yes we love our team and most of us (not all) will pay our money and follow them until the day we die but players like JFH means, at it’s most basic level, "bums on seats".

Players like Hasselbaink spark the imagine in the younger football supporters (as did Dalla Bona). These children are the future followers of Chelsea, if you take away the "big" and popular players from the club then you are inhibiting Chelsea’s future. JFH is an investment not an expensive overhead.

Let’s not give Ranieri a five year contract and then financially tie the poor man’s hands. Give the man the tools to do the job the way in which he feels best fit. I am all for consolidating and bedding down with the current squad but let’s not over incapacitate ourselves.

Investments must be made and they must be shrewd but………..to consider selling our most valuable asset??

Jimmy is an asset that we must continue to invest in after all, he has been the club’s leading goal scorer for the past two seasons.

To sell Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink (or Eidur, or Carlo, or Terry, or Forrsel)…………suicide!!!!?????

I would really like to hear from any other Chelsea supporters - please tell me what you think is going on. What are your worst fears regarding Chelsea at the moment? Please get in touch. Believe me, I need any support I can get at the moment.
