Chelsea to Concede Defeat to Liverpool in Race for Timo Werner

Chelsea are ready to give up on their pursuit of RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner, with the Blues of the belief that the German will join Liverpool this summer.

The 24-year-old's impressive performances this season have caught the eye of many of Europe's elite clubs, with the forward having netted 27 goals in just 36 appearances this term.

The Premier League pair of Chelsea and Liverpool have both been linked with Werner – among many other clubs – but it seems that Frank Lampard will look elsewhere for offensive reinforcements this summer, with the Blues accepting that Liverpool will sign the highly-rated attacker.

According to The MetroChelsea are already looking at other options as they aim to bolster their forward line this summer, with the club conceding defeat in their bid to bring Werner to Stamford Bridge.

Lampard will be eager to take the burden off Tammy Abraham's shoulders next season, while both Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi's futures at the club look uncertain.

The intense speculation surrounding Werner's future will likely gather more momentum as the transfer window draws closer, but Chelsea's decision to pull out of the race to sign the striker will at least narrow the German's options.

Timo Werner

Liverpool appear to be in pole position to sign the forward, who has previously spoken out about how much he admires both Jurgen Klopp and the achievements of the current world champions.

Werner has described Liverpool as 'the best team in the world' in recent weeks, fuelling rumours that he will be playing his football at Anfield next season, while Reds boss Klopp has reportedly been interested in the Leipzig forward for some time.

However, the Werner transfer saga will likely have many a twist and turn before any deal is eventually completed, but the German does seem set to leave Leipzig this summer regardless.
