Chelsea target Josko Gvardiol signs RB Leipzig contract extension

RB Leipzig have confirmed that centre-back Josko Gvardiol has signed a one-year contract extension.

Chelsea recently held talks with the German side over a £77m deal for Gvardiol which would see him remain in Leipzig until 2023.

But Gvardiol has now added an extra year onto his contract, committing his future to Leipzig until 2027.

"I'm very happy to have extended the contract early until 2027, because I still want to achieve a lot with RB Leipzig," he said. "I feel the club's confidence to continue my development.

"We're in the Champions League again, won the DFB Cup last year and want to play for titles again this year. I am very grateful to those responsible at the club that they plan long-term with me and want to continue on this successful path with me.”

Gvardiol was asked about Chelsea's interest but was quick to brush it off, insisting his contract renewal will do nothing to stop any speculation.

Asked whether he struggles dealing with the pressure of the rumours, Gvardiol said: "It's not a problem because it's not my business, it's not my part of the job. I have agents who are taking care of this.

"I focus on myself, the club and my performance on the pitch."
