Chelsea Starlet Billy Gilmour Explains Why He Wears Liverpool Shirt at Home

Chelsea's young midfield prospect Billy Gilmour has explained why he has recently been wearing a Liverpool shirt while playing football in his garden.

As the enforced lockdown continues to restrict football, the sight of Premier League players keeping fit in their homes has become a part of everyday social media activity.

Yet the thought of Gilmour harnessing his skills while wearing a Liverpool jersey is somewhat puzzling - particularly for Blues fans - although the young Scot has explained why.

In an interview with the Chelsea website, the former Rangers youth player was asked to name the most recent shirt he had worn, revealing: "It was probably Andy Robertson’s Liverpool shirt when I swapped with him after the recent FA Cup game.

"I wear that sometimes at the moment, just out in the garden playing football."

Gilmour's performance in Chelsea's FA Cup victory over league leaders Liverpool was impressive and rubber stamped his credentials as a future star in English football.

Such was the quality of his play that even the hard to please Roy Keane was purring about the 18-year-old after the game, stating on Sky Sports: "He had everything, it was one of the best performances I have seen in a long, long time."

Before the abrupt halt of the season, Gilmour had made just seven first-team appearances under Frank Lampard, yet had thoroughly impressed his manager, fans and pundits alike to warrant further inclusion.

Equally, at international level, there has been much clamour for the midfielder to be called up to the Scotland senior side for the European Championship qualifiers - whenever they may be.

The nation have been lacking quality for a number of years, yet there is hope of a brighter future following the emergence of Gilmour and other Premier League regulars like Scott McTominay and John McGinn emerge.
