We Love You!
Zola, 36, revealed recently that it would be hard for him to retire at the end of this season, when his current deal comes to an end.

He said, “I feel very fit and strong and while I feel this good I want to carry on playing for as long as possible.”

While it is likely he will delay any final decision regarding his playing future until later in the season, Zola already has an option in his existing contract to stay at Chelsea for a further two years in an unspecified role.

According to reports this is likely to be within a coaching capacity as Franco is keen to pursue a coaching career. He will be offered the chance to join the Chelsea coaching staff while also taking an FA badge.

However Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri is keen for Gianfranco to delay any thoughts of retiring and to continue to show the type of sparkling form displayed so far this season.

Chelsea's chief executive Trevor Birch speaking to the Evening Standard stated: "We will be talking to Franco and I believe both parties would be keen to reach an agreement, given the way he's been playing this season."

Birch also revealed that the club would not place any pressure on coach Claudio Ranieri to sell any leading players during the January transfer window.

“The important thing is that we are not in a position where we have to sell our best players. Claudio Ranieri says he's happy with the squad and the fantastic team spirit at the moment”.

It is comforting to know that Chelsea Football Club are determined to keep the “little” Italian from retiring. Maybe all our prayers are finally beginning to be answered?

There is only one Franco Zola. He will never be replaced.

Long may we be blessed with the beautiful skill and genius of the dimunitive Italian. Please stay…….
