Chelsea have retained the Women's Super League title in some style, romping to a 5-0 victory over Reading.
The Blues went into the final day in a strong position, holding a two-point lead over second-placed Manchester City. This meant that they could only relinquish the title if they lost and City beat West Ham, or they drew and there was a significant goal swing.
However, any fears that Chelsea would fail to get the job done were put to bed early on at Kingsmeadow with Melanie Leupolz putting them 1-0 up inside two minutes. Fran Kirby grabbed a second just before the interval. After the break the floodgates opened with Kirby, Sam Kerr and Erin Cuthbert all getting on the scoresheet.
Kerr's strike extended her lead at the top of the goalscoring charts, with the Australian finishing on 21 goals. Her tally was one short of the WSL record (22) which continues to be held by Arsenal's Vivianne Miedema, who finished runner-up in the Golden Boot race this time out.
The Blues' mammoth win made City's 1-0 win over West Ham - a dress rehearsal for next Sunday's FA Cup final - irrelevant.
Chelsea have the chance to seal another trophy later this month when they take on Barcelona in the Champions League final. Their men's side are also one step from European glory, meaning the club are on the brink of a unique double.
At the opposite end of the table Bristol City's relegation was confirmed after they fell to a 3-1 defeat to Brighton. A win would have seen them leapfrog 11th placed Birmingham City, who themselves lost to Tottenham. The Robins will be replaced in the WSL next season by Leicester City, who romped to the Championship title this season.
