Chelsea Reach Agreement With Starlet Tariq Lamptey Over New Long-Term Contract

Chelsea have reached an agreement with right-back Tariq Lamptey over a new long-term contract at Stamford Bridge.

The 19-year-old is among a handful of academy graduates to break into Frank Lampard's first team this season, although Lamptey had looked set to leave at the end of the season once his previous deal expired.

Lamptey now appears to have made a U-turn over his future, however, as The Athletic reports that an agreement has been reached over a new long-term deal - with an official announcement expected soon.

The England Under-20 international was being watched closely by Ligue 1 side OGC Nice, whose manager is former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira.

As well as extending Lamptey's contract, Reece James is also understood to be close to reaching an agreement over his long-term future at the club.

He still has a contract at Chelsea until 2022, but James' new deal will be extended for another three years.

19-year-old Lamptey has only made two senior appearances for Chelsea in his career, making his debut in their 2-1 win over Arsenal before also featuring in the club's comfortable win over Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup.

He, as well as James, are among a batch of young English right-backs who have been breaking through into senior football in recent years.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are the two most high-profile young players to stake a claim in Gareth Southgate's England squad, but both James and now Lampety aren't far behind in the pecking order.
