Chelsea 'Prepare £75m Bid' for Bayer Leverkusen Wonderkid Kai Havertz

Chelsea are considering making a huge offer for Bayer Leverkusen's in-demand star Kai Havertz this summer.

The Blues have already struck deals for both Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, but the club are considering a plan to continue spending and take advantage of their rivals' financial uncertainty following the coronavirus pandemic.

Finding a new winger is one of Chelsea's top priorities as they are set to lose both Willian and Pedro this summer, and the Mail state that Havertz is the man at the top of the wish list.

Any deal for Havertz is expected to cost north of the £75m mark, but Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is not concerned and is believed to want to 'make up for lost time' after the Blues were banned from making such signings last summer.

Despite the pandemic, Chelsea remain in a comfortable financial position, and their transfer kitty has been boosted by the near £130m earned from the sales of Eden Hazard and Álvaro Morata to Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid respectively.

Funding a move for Havertz should not be much of a problem, especially if plans to offload some of the fringe players at Stamford Bridge come to fruition.

The Blues are expected to face plenty of competition, with Manchester United, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich all said to have the 20-year-old on their radar, but with many of those teams looking elsewhere or lacking transfer funds, Chelsea may have reason to be confident.

On Havertz's future, Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes recently told Marca: "We don't know yet what will happen to Kai. We know that all the great clubs from Germany and Europe are after him and that he has the ability to play anywhere.

"I have no preferences when it comes to other teams. He will be one of the great dominators of the game in the next 10 years."

Such a move may see Chelsea forced to change their plans for a new left-back. Leicester City's Ben Chilwell has been touted as the dream signing, but with any deal likely to cost close to the £75m mark, alternatives like Ajax's Nicolás Tagliafico or Porto's Alex Telles will have to come into consideration.
