Chelsea Looking to Extend Fan Favourite's Contract After Hearing Winger Would Stay 'Until He's 40'

Chelsea winger Willian has insisted he wants to stay at the club 'until he's 40' after entering into talks over a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

The Brazil international is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, but Chelsea's most senior forward continues to impress for the club and most recently put in a man of the match performance in their 2-0 win over Tottenham.

The 31-year-old is in his seventh season as a Chelsea player, but Sky Sports' Kaveh Solhekol reports that the club now want to extend Willian's stay at Stamford Bridge and are in talks with the winger over a new deal.

Willian himself has rubbished reports which claimed he could leave in January, adding that he would stay at Chelsea 'until he's 40' if he was given the chance.

While Willian would be a welcomed addition for manager Frank Lampard beyond this season, the Brazilian's future could impact any business they do in the transfer market - specifically surrounding their apparent interest in Jadon Sancho.

Since Chelsea's transfer ban was lifted ahead of the January window, Borussia Dortmund and England star Sancho have been heavily linked with a move to west London that would be between £125m and £150m.

It's looking increasingly unlikely that Borussia Dortmund will agree to part ways with Sancho next month.

But with Frank Lampard set to be given a £150m transfer budget as Chelsea look to sign Eden Hazard's long-term replacement, Sancho could emerge as a stronger target for the club at the end of the season.

As far as Chelsea's current squad is concerned, Willian's contract extension could prove vital as the club already look set to part pays with a handful of first-team players on free transfers.

Forwards Pedro and Olivier Giroud will be free to talk to clubs outside of the Premier League in January as they enter the last few months of their contract, while Marco van Ginkel, Michael Hector and Willy Caballero are almost at the end of their deals too.
