Chelsea 4-0 Crystal Palace: Player Ratings as Blues Secure Comfortable Win Over Eagles

Chelsea picked up their second Premier League win of the season as they swept aside Crystal Palace 4-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The Blues dominated possession in the first half, but failed to really test Vicente Guaita in the Palace goal. But Frank Lampard's men took the lead just five minutes into the second half, Ben Chilwell latching onto a loose ball inside the penalty area and rifling home.

Chelsea doubled their lead with 20 minutes remaining as Kurt Zouma climbed highest to head home Chilwell's cross. Jorginho made it 3-0 from the penalty spot before then slotting home once again from the spot inside the final 15 minutes to seal the points for his side.

Let's get into some player ratings, shall we?

Chelsea

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Edouard Mendy (GK) - 7/10 - Making his first Premier League start for his new club, all eyes were on Mendy - and he delivered. Didn't have much to do, but was confident when called upon. A clean sheet as well.

Cesar Azpilicueta (RB) - 6/10 - Kept his place in the team from the midweek cup tussle with Spurs, and put in a typically tireless display.

Thiago Silva (CB) - 7/10 - Didn't enjoy a very memorable debut, but was more composed on Saturday and kept the Palace attack very quiet. Very assured display.

Kurt Zouma (CB) - 7/10 - Is Zouma the man to partner Thiago Silva at the back? Only time will tell, but the centre-back was confident and complimented his partner well. Grabbed a goal as well.

Ben Chilwell (LB) - 8/10 - One goal and one assist - not a bad Premier League debut, eh? Was an outlet going forward throughout the game, providing the width down the left. His goal came at a crucial time as well to break the deadlock.

2. Midfielders

N'Golo Kante (CM) - 7/10 - Continued to prevent Palace from being able to break through the midfield line, nipping in and winning the ball back for Chelsea.

Jorginho (CM) - 7/10 - Produced some wonderfully executed passes to get Chelsea in behind the Palace backline. Oh, and slotted his two penalties away with ease.

Kai Havertz (CAM) - 7/10 - While primarily operating in the attacking midfield role, Havertz was given the freedom to constantly drift into other positions, picking up clever pockets of space and playing incisive passes.

3. Forwards

Callum Hudson-Odoi (RW) - 7/10 - Although he has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich once again, Lampard opted to go with Hudson-Odoi from the start. Picked up some clever positions and linked up well with his teammates.

Timo Werner (LW) - 5/10 - A tough afternoon for Werner as he struggled to really get involved. Starting out on the left, he often found himself stuck in between positions as he drifted in field and wasn't able to find space.

Tammy Abraham (ST) - 5/10 - Was quiet and didn't look to stretch the Palace defence, while he also appeared to clash with Werner in terms of finding space in the attacking third. Showed his frustration after not being allowed to take the second penalty.

4. Substitutes

Christian Pulisic - N/A

Mateo Kovacic - N/A

Crystal Palace

5. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Vicente Guaita (GK) - 4/10 - Didn't really have any saves to make, but ended up picking the ball out of his net four times. Ouch.

Joel Ward (RB) - 5/10 - Was pinned back for most of the afternoon, but kept Werner quiet - forcing him to drift in field.

Cheikhou Kouyaté (CB) - 6/10 - Once again deployed as a centre-back, Kouyaté put in another impressive display at the back. Didn't look out of place, even against tough opposition and despite the scoreline.

Mamadou Sakho (CB) - 4/10 - Will be disappointed with his involvement for the opener, while he conceded the second penalty.

Tyrick Mitchell (LB) - 5/10 - As well as being defensively aware, Mitchell also got forward whenever possible to support attacks. The majority of Palace's attacks were down his flank, but did concede a penalty. An exciting prospect, nonetheless.

6. Midfielders

Andros Townsend (RM) - 5/10 - Was quiet for large parts of the game, but put in a few teasing crosses from set-pieces.

James McCarthy (CM) - 5/10 - Typically hard-working display, but was overrun in the middle by Chelsea's midfield three. Was unable to get his attackers involved.

James McArthur (CM) - 5/10 - See McCarthy. A tough afternoon for the pair.

Ebere Eze (LM) - 6/10 - Worked hard down the left all afternoon, and showed real quality when on the ball. Quick, tireless and possesses an end product as well, Eze is perfectly suited to Palace's counter-attacking setup.

7. Forwards

Jordan Ayew (FW) - 5/10 - A quiet afternoon, but continued to act as the first line of the press when Chelsea looked to build from the back. Didn't have any real chances in front of goal though.

Wilfried Zaha (FW) - 4/10 - Kept quiet by Thiago Silva for most of the afternoon, while the supply to him wasn't the best either.

8. Substitutes

Luka Milivojevic - 5/10

Jairo Riedewald - 5/10
