Chelsea 3-0 Roma

There were some positives to take from the game, with Didier Drogba scoring on his debut and the defence keeping a clean sheet.

Chelsea started the game briskly, with Joe Cole scoring a great goal early on and Mateja Kezman going close with several efforts.

The players stepped up another gear at the start of the second half and Kezman finally got the goal he deserved with a clinical finish just after the hour. But his game turned sour shortly after.

Booked in the first half, Mateja received his marching orders after clashing with Olivier Dacourt. He was sticking up for his ex-PSV buddy Arjen Robben, who was on the receiving end of a horrendous challenge by Dacourt. And there was me thinking this was only a friendly.

Mateja reacted to the challenge by squaring up to Dacourt, who appeared to swing a punch. Both players were sent off.

Didier Drogba, on as a half time substitute, showed predatory instincts after the sending off to wrap up the win. Frank Lampard hit a pearler from 30 yards which the keeper made a hash off. Drogba was on hand to finish it off with ease.

Despite the red card to Kezman, Jose Mourinho will be delighted with the performance. After the Celtic match, he had complained about the manner in which we conceded. Against Roma, no goals were conceded, and the Italians barely had a sniff of goal.
