Cech: Defence Is The Key

Cech started his first competitive game for the Blues on Sunday against Man United, keeping a clean sheet. And he feels that if the side can keep up that level of defensive performance then this will be a successful season!

The Czech keeper said "If you want to win something, then you have to play well in defence. We did that so it was enough to score one goal. Then it's easier to play. During pre-season, we scored a lot of goals and so I hope we'll continue scoring goals and, especially, winning."

Cech singled out John Terry's contribution for the club: "John is one of the best defenders in England. He's our captain and a great player. He played very well against United and blocked three or four shots. So it was easier for me to play!

"We've been training for just three or four weeks, but we played well in defence and as a team in the pre-season games. We haven't had any problems with the new players.

"It was my objective to start the season as number one against United and I was successful. But nothing is done yet. We have to continue like this and win, win, win."
