Carlo Backs Terry To Skipper

Desailly parted company with the Blues after mutually agreeing to scrap the last year of his contract.

And after stepping in for Marcel on numerous occasions in the past as skipper, John Terry looks set to take over the post permanently.

Club goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini sees JT as the perfect replacement, and also had a few nice words to say about 'The Rock.'

Carlo said: "We have bought lots of expensive players, but John is the most important player at the club.

"When I came here in 1999, he was just a youngster in the reserves - but within two years he was one of the most important players in the first team. He is one of the best defenders in England."

"Although John is just 23, he has got great experience and personality. He was captain sometimes last season and I think he should be again this season.

"Marcel has been a great player for Chelsea, a good captain brings a lot of experience.

"He has helped John Terry and William Gallas and it's a pity he is leaving, but he has the experience to decide when to finish.

"It will be different not having him in the team because apart from football wise, Marcel is a great guy. We will miss him, but it does not mean that we have to now buy other players because Marcel has left a big gap as John, William and Robert are such great players."
