Bye-Bye Batesy!

Chelsea Village chairman Bruce Buck paid tribute to the man who led Chelsea during their most successful period ever, saying "We have received a letter confirming the resignation of Ken Bates as chairman of Chelsea Football Club."

"Ken has played an important and pivotal role in the development and success of the club over the last 22 years which will always be recognised by the club and its fans."

"The club has a new owner and a new chief executive, and these are exciting times at Stamford Bridge. I am sure Ken will remain a fan and wish the club all the best for the future, and we also wish him well."

Bates saw his side win the European Cup Winners' Cup, 2 FA Cups, a League Cup, a European Super Cup and a Charity Shield. We also lost 2 FA Cup finals under his tenure, whilst making the Champions League quarter finals once and also reaching the European Cup Winners' Cup semi finals twice.

Bates' infamous coloumn in the Chelsea programme was axed after 22 years last month, which some say was the last straw. However, Bates doesn't leave Chelsea empty handed. He will take home with him an estimated £17 million after the sale of the club to Roman Abramovich last summer.

Whilst the opinion of Bates varies amongst Chelsea fans, no one can argue that he has led us to some great times!

Bye-Bye Batesy- thanks for the memories!!
