Blackburn

Tim, editor of www.blackburnrovers-mad.co.uk talks to Chelsea Mad about his side’s chances tonight and who he believes Chelsea should be wary of?!

Here goes:-

Last year saw both games between Blackburn and Chelsea end with goalless draws and yet in the 98-99 season who could forget the Blackburn 3 Chelsea 4 thriller!? Which type of game are we likely to see on Wednesday night, the seven goal thriller or the forgettable blanks?

Until recently the back of Brad Friedel’s net has been a quiet place. Our defence is strong but our strike force is yet to gel, as much as I would like to see a seven-goal thriller, I can’t see it happening.

Everyone is talking about the “renewed acquaintance” between Cole and Yorke. Are you confident that they can reproduce the kind of form displayed at United?

It would be obvious to say we hope so, but the amazing run of form by last season’s donkey Ciccio Grabbi’s return to form and the imminent return of Matt Jansen is likely to spice things up. Cole and Yorke have looked lazy so far, so I wouldn’t count on them becoming a regular pairing.

What are Blackburn's priorities this season? What is the key to their success?

A UEFA cup spot has excited fans, but the gaffer says he wants to concentrate on the League. We’d love another decent cup run and some silver wear would be nice, but Souness will have his priorities set on a top 10 finish.

Graeme Souness is such an important influence for many players at the club. What is it he brings to the club that makes that special difference?

All his old players! Most of Souness’ signings are players he’s worked with before, like Tugay and Friedel. But I think his passion breeds good team spirit. He’s always getting worked up on the touchline and getting himself fined for going too far. Not a good role model for the kids, but it shows his hearts in the right place.

Who do you feel will be Blackburn’s key players this Wednesday evening? Who should Chelsea really fear?

Our defence has been solid so far, so we don’t expect to let many in and we’re hoping Cole and Yorke will start scoring some time soon because they are our real danger men.

Are there any injuries/team news we should know about?

Yeah, unfortunately our star player Damien Duff tore a muscle playing for the Republic of Ireland. He’s probably our best source of firepower, so it looks like you’ll get off lightly!

Your match prediction?

I’d like to see us cruise to a comfortable 2-0 victory, although I’m a big fan of Zola, so if he scores a cracker, I won’t hold it against you!
