Bayern chief reveals identity of 2 Premier League sides chasing Dayot Upamecano

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed that the German side are up against Chelsea and Liverpool in their pursuit of RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano.

As seems to be tradition with Bayern, club officials have been incredibly vocal with their plans to sign their latest target, and Upamecano's agent recently confirmed that the centre-back was set to choose between Bayern and two Premier League sides.

By not naming those two English sides, the rumour mill was sent into a frenzy, but Rummenigge has since confirmed that it's Chelsea and Liverpool who have been pushing hardest for Upamecano's signature.

"In addition to Bayern Munich, there are at least two quite attractive clubs interested," Rummenigge told Sky Sport Deutschland.

"The fact is that the player is interesting, and the fact is that we will almost certainly lose David Alaba at his position. I can't say if there will be other departures at the position.

"The player will know what he wants at some point. We have a good relationship with RB Leipzig as well. I have had a conversation with Oliver Mintzlaff. When things become concrete, we'll talk again. The fact that Chelsea and Liverpool are also interested in him proves that he has very good qualities. He can replace David Alaba."

Bayern have identified Upamecano as their ideal replacement for Alaba, who Rummenigge confirmed was "99.9%" leaving the German giants this summer when his contract expires.

Upamecano's £38m release clause has made him one of the most in-demand defenders on the planet, and it comes as no surprise to see Chelsea and Liverpool both making moves to try sign the 22-year-old.

However, while Chelsea may still need a younger centre-back to replace 36-year-old Thiago Silva, Liverpool's interest in Upamecano may have cooled following the arrival of Schalke's Ozan Kabak on loan for the remainder of the season.

Liverpool have the option to sign Kabak permanently in the summer for an initial £18m, and the Reds may prefer to stick with the Turkish international instead of spending more money on a different player.
