Bates and Birch: No Approach For Jimmy

Last updated : 27 August 2002 By -
With continual reports suggesting that Jimmy is close to move to Barcelona, last night on ChelseaTV, both Ken Bates and Trevor Birch confirmed that there has been no approach from Barcelona for the striker.

This backs up Humphry Nijman’s

comments (Jimmy’s agent) who told Sky
News: “I have not spoken to journalists about it. There has been no contact whatsoever between Barcelona and me and, as far as I know, no contact between Barcelona and Chelsea.

Jimmy loves Chelsea and loves the fans and London is a great city.

It is all speculation and Jimmy has no reason to consider a move at this moment.”

Nijman’s comments, the confirmation from Ken Bates and Trevor Birch reiterate those of Hasselbaink himself, who has said that he is not seeking a move away from Stamford Bridge.

However worryingly, Jimmy has admitted that any genuine interest from Barcelona would have to be considered.

Barcelona may yet not have approached Chelsea as clearly stated by the Chairman and Chief Executive on last nights ChelseaTV but………..there is still 4 days left of this first transfer window…………?

Unfortunately, I still have my doubts.
