Aldershot 1 Chelsea 5

Last updated : 06 August 2002 By -

Chelsea lined up in a 4-4-2 formation. The side lined up as follows:-

Carlo Cudicini

Mario Melchiot
William Gallas
Marcel Desailly(c)

Celestine Babayaro

Enrique De Lucas
Frank Lampard
Manu Petit
Bolo Zenden

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink
Gianfranco Zola

Substitutes: Ed De Goey, Mario Stanic, Valerio Di Cesare, Albert Ferrer, Robert Huth, Graeme Le Saux, Carlton Cole, Joe Keenan, Gabriele Ambrosetti, Jesper Gronkjaer.

A brace each from Gianfranco Zola and Carlton Cole and a single strike from Gabriele Ambrosetti (scoring on his return to a Chelsea shirt) completed a 5 - 1 win for the Blues.

A crowd just short of 6000 at the Recreation Ground saw a Chelsea – again made from a blend

between experience and youth – continue their pre-season with yet another dominant display.

Zola opened the scoring in the 24th minute and again five minutes later to make the score 2-0 to

Chelsea.

At half-time Claudio Ranieri sent on ten substitutes and midfielder Frank Lampard was the only player to participate for 90 minutes.

Carlton Cole scored his first and Chelsea’s third in the 50th minute and, in the 69th, Ambrosetti made it four.

Cole got his second and Chelsea’s 5th as the final whistle approached, completing a good night from The Blues.

Aldershot's consolation goal came on 70 minutes and apparently, got the loudest cheer of the night.
